Dude, seriously?
I mean, come on! We use WAY more than six people when we run surveys. Hell, we usually use more than six people when we do experiments. It's the neurobiologists who are all like, "We did an fMRI study of 14 people- we understand EVERYONE!!!1!!"
Still and all, though, it's a fun comic. Thanks SMBC.

Sadly, many people confuse sociology and journalism. Belkin's famous Times article about the "opt-out revolution" has been enormously influential in sociology (although often as a foil), and it's based entirely on "interviews" of six friends from her Princeton graduating class.
We also managed to give a sociology award to David Brooks, despite the fact that he gets sociology wrong at least 80% of the time.
